Gorakhnath temple attack: NIA court hands death sentence to convict Murtaza Abbasi
Gorakhnath temple attack: Murtaza Abbasi, who was arrested in connection with an attack on security personnel stationed outside the famous Gorakhnath temple in Uttar Pradesh Gorakhpur, was sentenced to death by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Monday. The incident occurred in April of 2022.
Accused Murtaza Abbasi attacked personnel of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) stationed at the Gorakhnath temple. Abbasi, a chemical engineer by profession, was apprehended by other security personnel and locals following a brief chase as he attempted to flee the scene.
Notably, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest (Mahant) of Gorakhnath Temple. The CM also has his personal accommodation here. However, he was not at the temple at the time of the attack.
