Punjab's first woman chief secretary Vini Mahajan retires
Mahajan played several pivotal roles throughout her 37 years of career, including working in PMO during Dr. Manmohan Singh's tenure from 2005 to 2012.
Punjab's first woman Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan, who served in several significant positions in the state and central government, retired on October 31. She took to her social media and bid adieu announcing her retirement. A 1987 batch IAS officer, Mahajan was currently working on deputation at the Centre.
She is married to former DG of NIA Dinker Gupta who retired in April this year.
Mahajan played several pivotal roles throughout her 37 years of career, including working in PMO during Dr. Manmohan Singh's tenure from 2005 to 2012. During this time she took charge of important sectors like finance, industry, commerce and IT and helped maintain India's economic stability during the global economic recession.
The former Chief Secretary of Punjab had worked in the PMO during Manmohan Singh’s tenure. She had received many awards in her academic career including National Talent Search Scholarship. In 2000–2001, she was also awarded the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship at American University, Washington DC.
Early in her administrative career, Vini Mahajan became the first woman Deputy Commissioner of Ropar district of Punjab in 1995. While holding this position, she ran an impressive literacy campaign, for which she received the National Literacy Award.
