Fashion influencer Reshma Sebastian mistaken for Captain's widow Smriti Singh; faces trolling
She shares screenshot of Facebook post where man used her photo to troll Smriti Singh, wife of deceased Army officer
PTC Web Desk: Reshma Sebastian, a popular fashion influencer from Kerala, took to Instagram on Sunday to address a case of mistaken identity that has led to vicious online trolling. Sebastian clarified that she is not Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, by President Droupadi Murmu on July 5.
Captain Anshuman Singh was honoured for his heroic efforts in rescuing people from a major fire in July last year. The Kirti Chakra was received by his wife, Smriti Singh, and his mother, Manju Singh, during the investiture ceremony.
Reshma Sebastian, who currently resides in Germany with her husband and daughter and is visiting Kerala, has been mistakenly identified as Smriti Singh by some social media users. This confusion has led to a barrage of hate comments and trolling over her fashion-related posts. In her Instagram post, she firmly stated, "This is not Smriti Singh's (widow of Indian Army soldier Capt Anshuman Singh) page/IG account. Read the profile details and bio first. Please refrain from spreading false information and hate comments."
To further clarify the situation, she shared a screenshot of a Facebook post where a man used her photo to troll Smriti Singh, the wife of the deceased Army officer. Expressing her frustration, Sebastian wrote, "This is absurd! Using my identity to spread false information about Smriti Singh. We are going ahead with legal actions." She urged her followers to report any similar posts using her photos and spreading misinformation.
