Encounter breaks out in J-K’s Poonch amid ongoing security operations

PTC News Desk: An encounter erupted in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district as security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists, an official reported on Sunday.

Following a tip-off, a joint operation involving the police and the Army was initiated on Saturday evening in the Pathanateer area near Gursai Top in the Mendhar sub-division. As the security forces advanced, the terrorists, who were in hiding, opened fire, leading to a gunfight.

The exchange of fire between the security forces and the terrorists has been ongoing intermittently. Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, and further updates are awaited as the operation continues.
