EAM Jaishankar to lead Indian delegation at SCO summit in Islamabad
It will mark the first high-level visit from India to Pakistan in several years
PTC News Desk: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is set to lead the Indian delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on October 15 and 16. This visit marks a significant moment, as it will be the first high-level Indian delegation to visit Pakistan in several years.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the development on Friday. He stated that Jaishankar will represent India at the SCO Heads of Government meeting, a multilateral forum that includes key members like Russia and China, with Pakistan serving as this year's host.
When questioned about the possibility of a bilateral meeting between Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart, Jaiswal refrained from confirming any such engagement. "The visit is specifically for attending the SCO meeting," he clarified.
As of now, Jaishankar's visit is solely focused on the summit, and there are no confirmed plans for interactions with Pakistani officials. However, Jaiswal assured that any developments on the matter would be communicated in due course.
