PTC News Desk: A civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police was arrested on Saturday after reportedly hitting a protesting student with his bike while drunk on Friday evening. The incident occurred while a group of students were protesting the r@pe and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital when a bike collided with one of them.

The civic volunteer has been identified as Gangasagar Golde.

Furthermore, the single arrested accused in the RG Kar r@pe and murder case, Sanjay Roy, was a civic volunteer with the city police.

A complaint has also been filed against one traffic sergeant, Tarakeswar Puri, who was seen engaging in an argument with the protesting students after the latter surrounded the motorcycle-riding civic volunteer after he allegedly hit one of them.

The students' group then held a sit-in to protest the police, demanding urgent action against the civic volunteer and traffic cop.

Later, Kolkata Police detained the accused civic volunteer in response to a complaint submitted by students. A departmental investigation has been opened against the traffic sergeant, and the civic volunteer has been dismissed from service.
