Ram Rahim gets 21-day parole: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two of his followers, was released on Tuesday morning from Sunaria Jail in Haryana's Rohtak district after being granted a 21-day furlough.

The release took place at 6:30 am, with two vehicles from the ashram arriving to escort him to the Dera's ashram in Barnawa, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

This marks the second time this year that Ram Rahim has been granted a temporary reprieve from his sentence.

His release comes just days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed a petition filed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) opposing his parole.

Earlier this year, in February, the high court instructed the Haryana government not to grant further parole to the Dera chief without the court's approval.

However, Ram Rahim had filed a petition in June seeking a 21-day furlough, which has now been granted.

The high court had acquitted Ram Rahim and four others in the 2002 murder of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, citing flawed investigations.
