Dense fog in Delhi causes flight and train delays; temperature drops to 11°C
Dense fog was also reported in cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi and Ayodhya
PTC Web Desk: Persistent foggy conditions in New Delhi caused delays in several flights and trains from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius in the capital.
Thick fog blanketed areas such as ITO, India Gate, Dhaula Kuan, and Kartavya Path, leading to near-zero visibility. Visuals also showed citizens seeking refuge in camps set up by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
According to a shelter camp manager, adequate facilities, including food and medicine, were being provided to those in need. “We welcome anyone seeking shelter wholeheartedly and ensure all necessary amenities are available,” said the manager.
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 207 at 7 am, indicating poor air quality, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Dense fog was also reported in cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi and Ayodhya, where the minimum temperature dipped to 10 degrees Celsius. However, the IMD predicted clear skies in Varanasi later in the day.
A local resident of Varanasi mentioned a significant drop in temperature over the past two days, accompanied by heavy fog. “It has been very cold, and we have been relying on bonfires to stay warm,” said another resident.
Mayurbhanj in Odisha also faced a thick fog cover, resulting in almost no visibility.
