Delhi's air quality lingers in 'very poor' category with AQI reaching 323
Delhi's air quality: New Delhi woke up to persistently 'very poor' air quality on Tuesday, marked by an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 323, as reported by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India). Specific locations exhibited varying AQI levels: IIT Delhi registered 321, the Airport (Terminal 3) area marked 336, and Pusa recorded 337, according to SAFAR.
Additionally, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) provided detailed AQI readings at specific areas: Anand Vihar at 374, Jahangirpuri at 399, Lodhi Road at 315, and New Moti Bagh at 370, as of 7:41 am.
The AQI scale categorizes air quality levels from 0 to 500, denoting 'good,' 'moderate,' 'poor,' 'very poor,' and 'severe.' This numerical representation simplifies complex data on various pollutants, aiding in comprehensible communication of air quality status.
In a notable development, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently lifted restrictions imposed under GRAP 4 (Graded Response Action Plan), signaling an improvement in Delhi's air quality. The relaxation permits the entry of trucks and buses, except for BS-3 and BS-4 petrol and diesel vehicles, and resumes ongoing construction activities previously halted.
