Delhi police seeks Telegram's cooperation after pro-separatist group claims responsibility for school blast threat
Following a loud explosion near a CRPF school in Rohini, New Delhi, on Sunday, many teams, including the National inquiry Agency and National Security Guards, conducted a thorough security drill and inquiry.
Delhi School Blast: A separatist group has claimed responsibility for a blast that occurred on Monday near a CRPF school in Rohini, New Delhi, sending shockwaves across the national capital. Following the incident, Delhi Police have reached out to social media platforms, including the messaging app Telegram, to gather information about the channel where the claim was made, according to officials.
The explosion, which took place in Prashant Vihar, caused significant damage to the school’s perimeter. While no injuries were reported, nearby buildings and vehicles sustained damage from the powerful blast.
Delhi Police have launched an investigation into possible links to separatist movements after a post on Telegram claimed the explosion was a retaliatory attack against Indian authorities, accusing them of targeting separatist groups abroad.
Authorities are particularly focused on a Telegram channel called ‘Justice League India,’ from which the threatening post originated. The police have formally requested details about the channel but have yet to receive a response from Telegram, officials said.
A video of the blast, with a threatening watermark, surfaced on the Telegram channel on Sunday evening. The accompanying message expressed outrage over alleged actions taken by Indian security agencies against members of the separatist group.
The message read, "If Indian coward agency and their master think they can hire filthy goons to target our members to silence our voice then they live in fools' world. They can't imagine how close we are to them and how capable we are to strike anytime." The post appeared to reference India's ongoing actions against global anti-national activities, with some analysts linking it to recent diplomatic tensions between India and Canada.
Preliminary investigations suggest the blast was caused by a low-intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED), set off using a timer or remote control. According to police sources, the device did not contain shrapnel or ball bearings, but it still damaged a portion of the school’s boundary wall, shattered windows in nearby shops, and wrecked several parked cars. The explosion was reportedly heard from several hundred meters away.
Authorities believe the attack may have been intended as a warning to government officials. In response, teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Delhi Police cordoned off the area to begin a thorough investigation. Forensic experts were also deployed to the scene to collect evidence and analyze the blast site.
