Delhi air pollution: Odd-even rule reintroduced in Delhi; check details
New Delhi, November 6: The odd-even rule will be reintroduced in Delhi from November 13 to November 20 as a measure to address air pollution.
Delhi Environment Minister, Gopal Rai on Monday announced the reintroduction of the odd-even car rationing scheme in the city during a press conference, emphasising the importance of addressing the pollution issue.
Under the odd-even scheme, cars are allowed to ply on alternate days, depending on whether their license plates end in an odd or even number. The minister also mentioned that a decision on extending the scheme would be taken after the initial period ends.
In an effort to prioritise the health of schoolchildren, the government has opted to suspend in-person classes across all schools, with the exception of students in grades X and XII who are preparing for board exams.
The decision to implement the odd-even scheme and the suspension of in-person classes comes in response to alarmingly high pollution levels in Delhi-NCR. On Monday morning, pollution levels were measured at approximately seven to eight times higher than the safe limits prescribed by the government. The region has been enveloped in a toxic haze for the seventh consecutive day.
