Delhi: 200 kg of 'ganja' seized from truck, 4 held

Four people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting more than 200 kg of 'ganja' hidden among household items in a transport truck, according to officials.

PTC Web Desk: Four people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting more than 200 kg of 'ganja' hidden among household items in a transport truck, according to officials.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Apoorva Gupta, the truck was loaded with household items belonging to Army and BSF personnel, including tables, chairs, refrigerators, bicycle and so on. The cannabis was hidden among these items.

The DCP stated that on the intervening night of June 4 and 5, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the east district received a tip-off on a truck transporting a large quantity of 'ganja' under the guise of shifting household items of security personnel from West Bengal to Delhi.

Acting on this information, the raiding team set up a trap near a Regional Rapid Transit System construction site on the road to Sabzi Mandi, Ghazipur, and Delhi, where they discovered two men unloading white plastic cartons from a truck, DCP Gupta stated.

She added that 215 kg of cannabis, a psychotropic substance, was found hidden among household items during the check.

Truck driver Inderpal and his helper Manish were later arrested, according to the SHO.

According to the SHO, Inderpal admitted to owning the truck and stated that on June 1, he loaded the household items of security personnel from Hashimara, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, bound for Delhi Cantt.

He also revealed that he was supposed to deliver the cannabis to Lublu Chaudhary, who lives in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, at the RRTS construction site on the road to Sabzi Mandi.

Another officer stated that further interrogation of accused Inderpal resulted in the arrest of the supplier, Chaudhary, from whose residence 22 kg of cannabis were recovered.

The police custody of accused Chaudhary resulted in the arrest of the drug peddler, Mohd Faiyaz alias Hafiz, on June 13, and 8.5 kg of cannabis was recovered from his home in Chipyana village, Ghaziabad.
