Coronavirus update: Covid spreads tentacles in India; 4435 fresh cases in 24 hrs

New Delhi, April 05: India on Wednesday recorded 4,435 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, the highest since the end of September, as the country grapples with a second wave of infections. The biggest single-day jump in the last 163 days (five months and 13 days), according to Union health ministry data the number of active cases increased to 23,091.

There are four deaths reported from Maharashtra; one death each was reported from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry and Rajasthan; and four were reconciled by Kerala.
The active cases now comprises 0.05 per cent, who are infected totally, at 23,091. According to the health ministry website the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.76 per cent. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.38 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 2.79 per cent.
The government has been taking steps to contain the spread of the virus, including imposing restrictions on public gatherings, enforcing a night curfew, and limiting the number of people who can attend wedding and religious functions.
The government has also urged people to follow Covid-19 protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and regularly washing their hands.
According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
