PTC News Desk: The government announced on Thursday that Ajit Doval has been reappointed as India's national security advisor. PK Mishra was also reappointed by the cabinet's appointments committee to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's position as Principal Secretary.

Following their reappointment, retired bureaucrats Dr. P K Mishra as key Secretary to PM and Ajit Doval as National Security Advisor have become the Prime Minister's longest-serving key advisors.

Doval will be in charge of intelligence, military concerns, and national security, while Dr. Mishra will handle PMO appointments and administrative tasks.

Doval, an IPS officer from the 1968 batch, offers to the PM the uncommon blend of strategic thinking and operational planning. He is a well-known authority on nuclear matters as well as counterterrorism.

Former Agriculture Secretary to the Government of India Dr. PK Mishra is a retired 1972 batch officer who has worked with PM Modi for the last ten years.

PM Modi has the highest level of trust in NSA Doval and Dr. Mishra because they were both close to him before to his appointment as the PM of the NDA in 2014. The two maintain a relatively low profile despite their expertise, with NSA Doval staying out of the media and interviews.

PM Modi's primary contact in the neighborhood and with P-5 is NSA Doval, who also manages India's RA&W external intelligence for the PM. Doval is a traditional spymaster with ties to the Middle East and experience in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
