PTC News Desk: The central government is likely to begin the census in 2025 and complete it by 2026, according to media reports. The census would be conducted after a four-year hiatus.

After the census, the BJP-led government would begin the process of delimiting Lok Sabha seats, according to a report by India Today.

The delimitation process will most likely be completed by 2028.

The Congress-led opposition has demanded a caste-based census. However, the broad contours of the census exercise have not been revealed.

Next year's census may include surveys of sub-sectors within the General and SC-ST categories. It will also count the number of persons from the general, scheduled caste, and scheduled tribes categories.
