PTC News Desk: A BSF officer is winning hearts with his calmness as he explains to hundreds of Bangladesh refugees camped at India's border why they cannot enter. Former Union Minister and Shiv Sena leader Milind Deora tweeted the video, which shows the officer speaking to refugees in a border area in Coochbehar, West Bengal.
Speaking in Bengali, the officer is heard saying, "We are all aware of your issues. You've come here, but a discussion is necessary. The problem cannot be solved in this manner. We cannot let you in, even if we wanted to."
As the crowd complains, the officer continues, "Please listen to me; nothing will come of shouting. The entire world is aware of your situation. But a discussion is required. After the discussion, we will determine how we can protect you. You may see that senior officers are present. But if you say we have to allow you right away, is that possible?"
"I'm requesting this on behalf of my country. We request that you return; a solution cannot be found in an hour or two," the officer says.
The crowd's voices are heard appealing to the BSF men to let them go. "They will burn our homes, and we will face atrocities," the crowd screams.
The BSF officer says "My senior officers have had discussions with your force. They will listen to your concerns. They've asked you to return."
Deora praised the officer's calmness in a post on X, saying, "This video of a BSF officer calmly explaining to Bangladeshis why they can't enter India illegally is heartbreaking, inspirational & reassuring all at once." "Heartbreaking to see the desperation; inspirational to witness the officer's calm composure; reassuring to know the government is committed to securing India's borders," he added.
