Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri's sister charged with murder in fatal New York arson case
Fire killed Aliya Fakhri's ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs, friend | As per prosecutors, Aliya Fakhri set fire after Jacobs refused to reconcile
PTC Web Desk: Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been indicted on multiple murder charges linked to a fatal fire at her ex-boyfriend’s home in Queens, New York. The fire, which occurred on November 23, claimed the lives of Edward Jacobs, 35, and his friend Anastasia Ettienne, 33.
Prosecutors allege that the 43-year-old intentionally set fire to a detached garage after Jacobs rejected her efforts to reconcile their relationship. Witnesses reportedly heard Aliya Fakhri shouting, "You’re all going to die today," moments before the blaze engulfed the property.
Aliya Fakhri has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and arson. She has pleaded not guilty and is being held at Rikers Island. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 9, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.
The fire reportedly began early in the morning while Jacobs was asleep in the garage. Ettienne tried to save him but both succumbed to smoke inhalation and severe burns, officials said.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz condemned the act, calling it a "malicious and tragic incident that ended the lives of two individuals in a devastating inferno."
Jacobs’ mother, Janet, told the media that her son had ended his relationship with Fakhri over a year ago and had been trying to distance himself. "She wasn’t taking rejection well and kept pursuing him," Janet stated.
In contrast, Fakhri’s mother expressed disbelief at the accusations, saying, "Aliya cared deeply for others. I can’t believe she would do something like this."
If convicted of the most severe charges, Aliya Fakhri faces a potential life sentence. This case has drawn significant attention, not only for its tragic nature but also due to Aliya Fakhri’s connection to her celebrity sister.
