BJP junks PM Modis retirement rumours, says Modi to lead nation beyond 29

PTC News Desk: The BJP government firmly dismissed the speculation about PM Modi's retirement in 2025 saying it was inappropriate to discuss succession when the patriarch of the family was alive.
Shortly after Shiv Sena UBT’s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters on Sunday to discuss his retirement plans, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that Modi would remain PM even in 2029.
Raut suggested that the RSS would decide Modi’s successor, which he claimed was the reason behind the closed-door meeting at the Sangh headquarters. He further speculated that Modi’s successor would be from Maharashtra.
In response, Fadnavis remarked that in Indian culture, discussing succession plans while the “father is alive” was inappropriate. Meanwhile, senior RSS leader Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, who oversees the Hedgewar Smarak Samiti that manages the memorials of RSS founder KB Hedgewar and former chief MS Golwalkar, denied any knowledge of Modi’s retirement or succession plans.
“This kind of discussion happens in Mughal culture. Time to discuss this has not come,” the Maharashtra CM said. He added Modi would continue to lead the country beyond 2029, the year of the 19th Lok Sabha elections.
