PTC News Desk: A former Pune Municipal Corporation corporator and an NCP leader from the Ajit Pawar faction was killed last night after being attacked by a group of bike-borne men in the city's Nana Peth district.
Vanraj Andekar died after being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. The incident appears to have been the result of personal enmity. Andekar was a corporator before the Pune civic body was transferred to the state government-appointed administrator.
A CCTV camera captured video of at least 12 people arriving at Andekar's premises on six two-wheelers. They are seen brandishing weapons. The former corporator was alone at the time.
"Five shots were fired at Vanraj Andekar. He was also attacked with long-bladed sickles. He was rushed to KEM Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival."
The Pune Crime Branch is investigating the high-profile murder. According to reports, the attackers were able to disrupt the local power supply and switch out the street lights.
At one point in the CCTV footage, something appears to be thrown at the attackers but misses them. The CCTV footage shows an adult and two children on a scooter just escaping the crime scene unharmed.
