New Delhi, January 27: Section 144 (banning large gatherings) has been imposed at the Faculty of the Arts at Delhi University amid a call by NSUI-KSU for the screening of the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Many security personnel are stationed outside the Faculty of Arts.

The BBC documentary has sparked a new controversy in the country after the government condemned it earlier this month, calling it a "propaganda piece" designed to push a discredited narrative. The government also removed the BBC documentary 'India: The Modi Question' from social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube.

JNUSU members allegedly faced a "deliberate" power outage while screening the disputed BBC documentary at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in the national capital.

Despite the government's claim that the documentary is a "propaganda piece," the opposition attacked the government on the issue of free speech.

Earlier in the day, 13 students were detained after they tried to cause a commotion outside Jamia Millia Islamia University due to the screening of a BBC documentary.

According to the Delhi Police, the university administration refused to allow the screening of the BBC documentary on campus.

The administration of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi also issued a warning on Monday against screening the BBC documentary on campus, following the distribution of a pamphlet inviting students to a screening of the film at the students union's office at 9 p.m. on January 24.

The JNU Students Union wrote to the university administration in response to the university administration's firm advisory against screening the BBC documentary, stating that they "do not seek to create any form of disharmony" and that their intention is to only watch it on campus.
