Assam's most wanted criminal shot dead in gunfight with cops in busy market

A suspected gangster with multiple police cases was killed in a shootout with cops in Assam's Hailakandi district on Monday. Police said he was one of the state's most wanted criminals.

PTC Web News: A suspected gangster with multiple police cases was killed in a shootout with cops in Assam's Hailakandi district on Monday. Police said he was one of the state's most wanted criminals.

CCTV footage from the shootout shows the gangster, Afzal Hussain Barhuiya, and his aide arriving at a market in a Santro car.

When they saw the cops closing in, his aide got down and fled, leaving Barhuiya in the driver's seat. A police officer tries to grab his hand, but he tries to take the officer's gun.

A gunfight followed, and the gangster was shot.

The police claimed they had been tailing the car for several kilometres before attempting to arrest him. His aide has been arrested.
