Army vehicle ambushed in J&K's Akhnoor; terrorists open fire, massive search operation underway

At least three to four terrorists were involved in the incident and opened around 15-20 rounds of fire on Indian Army vehicle.

A group of terrorists ambushed an army vehicle and opened fire in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. No casualties have been reported so far. The security officials quickly cordoned off the area  and launched a massive search operation. 


At least three to four terrorists were involved in the incident and opened around 15-20 rounds of fire on Indian Army vehicle. 

In the wake of the festival season, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir implemented an elaborate security measures in Jammu region. However, earlier this week at least 12 people were injured and two soldiers were killed in multiple gunfights across Jammu and Kashmir. 


The attack in Akhnoor took place days after two soldiers and two Army poters were killed when terrorist opened fired on Army vehicle in Bota Pathri area which is 6 kms from Gulmarg. 


On Friday, drones and helicopters were deployed for tremendous search operation in the areas along LoC. Security forces also took help of human and technical intelligence to assist the search operation to trace and neautralise the perpetrators of the attacks. 


A senior police official on Saturday said three to four militants are believed to have carried out the deadly attack on an Army convoy in the Gulmarg sector as the search operation resumed for the second day. “According to the evidence we got from there, 3-4 militants were involved in the attack,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Mohammad Zaid Malik.
