Anmol Bishnoi, brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, arrested in US: Reports
He was reportedly arrested in Sacramento last Thursday for entering United States using illegal documents
PTC Web Desk: Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was reportedly arrested in Sacramento last Thursday for entering the United States using illegal documents. Anmol Bishnoi is wanted in India for multiple high-profile crimes, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the recent killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
The Indian authorities have filed an extradition request with the US, seeking Anmol Bishnoi’s return to face justice. Lawrence Bishnoi, who orchestrates a global criminal network despite being incarcerated in Ahmedabad, is believed to have played a significant role in the crimes linked to his brother.
Anmol Bishnoi's detention is not linked to the crimes he is accused of by the Indian government. Intelligence sources suggest there is currently no likelihood of Anmol Bishnoi being extradited to India, despite Delhi's recent request for his custody.
The US authorities have informed their Indian counterparts about Bishnoi’s detention and the reasons behind his arrest. According to the ICE website, Anmol Bishnoi is being held at the Pottawattamie County Jail in Iowa. Anmol Bishnoi is known to travel frequently between the US and Canada, where his brother's criminal network holds considerable influence.
Earlier this month, the Mumbai Police sought his extradition, filing a proposal with the Central government. This followed the issuance of a non-bailable warrant by a Maharashtra court and a Red Corner Notice from Interpol. Anmol Bishnoi, originally from Punjab's Fazilka, fled India using a fake passport and was earlier believed to be hiding in Canada.
He is implicated in several cases filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), India's anti-terror unit, which has placed him on its most-wanted list. A reward of Rs 10 lakh was announced for information leading to his arrest.
The Bishnoi gang came under global scrutiny after the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. More recently, it gained attention following a firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence on April 14, allegedly linked to threats from Lawrence Bishnoi over the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
The gang is also under investigation for the murder of politician Baba Siddique last month, who was known to have close ties to Salman Khan. Additionally, the Bishnoi brothers are accused of conspiring to raise funds and recruit youth for terrorist activities in Delhi and other parts of India.
