Upon receiving the threat, the airline took immediate action, diverting the flight to Delhi, where it landed safely. A senior police official confirmed that the aircraft is currently stationed at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
“All standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board,” the officer stated. Security teams are conducting thorough checks as part of the procedure. No further details on the nature of the threat have been disclosed yet.
Media organisations reports that all standard safety protocols are being strictly observed to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew.
"The aircraft is currently stationed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where all necessary safety measures are being meticulously followed for the safety of everyone on board," stated a senior police officer to PTI.
This incident follows a recent event involving an Air India Express flight bound for Sharjah from Tiruchirappalli, which encountered a mid-air technical issue shortly after takeoff on Friday. The aircraft had to circle several times to reduce fuel and weight before landing safely.
According to the airline, the aircraft experienced a hydraulic system malfunction affecting the landing gear shortly after takeoff.
Thanks to the quick actions of the pilots, a potentially serious mid-air accident was averted, protecting the lives of approximately 141 passengers. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised the pilots and crew for executing a safe landing.
An Air India Express spokesperson commented, "After reporting a technical issue, the aircraft circled in the designated area as a precautionary measure to reduce fuel and weight in light of the runway length, before making a safe landing."
"The cause of the issue will be thoroughly investigated. In the meantime, we are arranging an alternative aircraft for our guests' onward journey. We apologize for the inconvenience and reaffirm our commitment to prioritising safety in all aspects of our operations."
