2 JDU leaders resign over partys support to Waqf bill: Lost trust of Muslims
The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha late at night yesterday, with JD(U), an ally of the National Democratic Alliance, being one of its supporters.

PTC News Desk: Two senior leaders of Janata Dal(United) have resigned from the party over on Thursday over disagreement over party's stance on Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha late at night yesterday, with JD(U), an ally of the National Democratic Alliance, being one of its supporters.
Mohammad Qasim Ansar in his letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that Centre's stance over the Waqf bill has left him disheartened citing that the bill goes against their principles.
Another leader Mohammad Ashraf Ansari, who is also the head of party's minority wing said millions of Indian Muslims had unwavering faith that Nitish Kumar was the flag-bearer of a purely secular ideology.
"But now this belief has been broken. Millions of dedicated Indian Muslims and workers like us have been deeply hurt by the stand of JD(U)... We are deeply saddened by the manner and style in which Lallan Singh gave his speech and supported this bill in the Lok Sabha. The Waqf Bill is against Indian Muslims," Ashraf Ansari said.
"... I am disheartened that I gave several years of my life to the party," Qasim Ansari said in the letter in Hindi. "I would like to say with due respect that millions of Indian Muslims like us had unwavering faith that you are the flag bearer of a purely secular ideology. But now this belief has been broken. Millions of dedicated Indian Muslims and workers like us are deeply shocked by the stand of JDU..."
"... The Waqf Bill is against Indian Muslims. We cannot accept it under any circumstances. This bill violates many fundamental rights of the Constitution. Through this bill, Indian Muslims are being humiliated and insulted... Neither you nor your party realises this. I regret that I gave many years of my life to the party," Qasim Ansari said.
