PTC News Desk: Days after stones were hurled at a Ganesh pandal in Gujarat's Surat, police in Bharuch reported a violent dispute between members of two religious communities.
According to authorities, the raising of religious flags in a city neighbourhood sparked the violence on Tuesday night.
"People of two different faiths got into a fight in the Gokul Nagar area. Our teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and dispersed the mob. Two persons were injured in the stone-pelting,” according to Mayur Chavda, Superintendent of Police in Bharuch.
Chavda further reported that a FIR (First Investigation Report) was filed in response to a complaint made by members of one community, and 17 people from the other side were detained.
He also stated that during the uproar, a few vehicles were destroyed and that the issue was currently under control.
According to the SP, the FIR is filed against a total of 20 individuals.
