We aim to increase defence manufacturing in India: Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Defence Industry Outreach Webinar' through video conference. He said that "We aim to increase defence manufacturing in India." PM Modi said that "For many years, India has been one of the biggest defence importers. When India got independence, it had the great capability in defence manufacturing and an ecosystem of defence manufacturing established over 100 yrs. Unfortunately, this subject couldn't get requisite attention." "A decision has been taken to permit up to 74 percent FDI in the defence manufacturing through the automatic route," he said. Likewise, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that "We want to become self-reliant to contribute to the world in a better way. In this direction, some bold policy reforms have been taken like the ban on import of 101 defence items."
