Man of wisdom, Dr Manmohan Singh donated 3,500 books to Panjab University

Manmohan Singh donated 3,500 books to Panjab University, Chandigarh Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has always stood out from the crowd, for reasons immeasurable. The flag bearer of multitudinous accolades like- Padma Vibhushan and several PhDs to his credit, our former PM has been a man of wisdom. He has left no streak uncolored in proving that knowledge is the ultimate supremacy. On Wednesday, Manmohan Singh was at the Panjab University to deliver the first Prof SB Rangnekar memorial oration lecture, where he made some striking remarks. "We must strongly reject divisive policies and politics." he said. "Atrocities against minorities and Dalits are increasing and if unchecked these tendencies can only harm our democracy" he added. Manmohan Singh donated 3,500 books to Panjab University, Chandigarh Singh returned to Panjab University after 52 years and delivered a through-provoking lecture on "the 70th anniversary of our Independence- strengthening the roots of our democracy". Singh also donated 3,500 books from his personal library to his alma mater - they will be kept in the Guru Teg Bahadur Bhawan. An arrangement will soon be made to transfer books and memorabilia, photographs and paintings from New Delhi to the university campus. He became a professor at the age of 32 years and continued teaching in PU till the mid-1960s before moving to other international assignments.He was the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Former Prime Minister gave a lecture on ‘70 Years of Independence: Strengthening Roots of Democracy’, at the law auditorium on the campus, and also visited the Department of Economics along with donating books at the University. -PTC News
