Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar appointed next Director-General of military operations
New Delhi, April 19: The Central Government on Tuesday appointed Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar as the new Director-General of Military Operations. He will take over the new office on May 1. He is currently the General Officer Commanding of 1 Corps, a strike formation responsible for offensive operations against both Pakistan and China. He was posted as Director of General Staff Duties at Army Headquarters. Also Read | Shiv Sena alleges motive of electoral gains behind Jahangirpuri violence Lt Gen Katiyar, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned into the Rajput Regiment's 23rd Battalion in June 1986, which he later commanded along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. He also commanded a mountain division and an infantry unit along the western borders. He is a distinguished graduate of the National War College in the United States, as well as the National Defence College in New Delhi. He trained at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan. Earlier on Monday, Indian Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General Manoj Pande was appointed as the new chief of the Indian Army. He will also take over his new office on May 1.
