Lakhimpur Kheri: UP Police to move court to seek accused Ashish Mishra's custody

Lakhimpur Kheri: The Uttar Pradesh Police will file an application before a court in Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday, seeking the custody of accused Ashish Mishra in the violence that claimed the lives of eight persons earlier this month. Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, who was arrested on October 9, was produced before a court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the October 3 Lakhimpur violence. Also read | Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: Prime accused Ashish Mishra arrested After around 12 hours of questioning in connection with the violence in which eight persons, including four farmers, were killed, a medical team examined Ashish Mishra in the crime branch office. Later, he was taken for production before a Judicial Magistrate, who sent him to custody. According to top sources in the Uttar Pradesh Police, the minister's son was not able explain several points about his whereabouts during the incident. The arrest came a day after the Supreme Court told the Uttar Pradesh Government that the law must take its course against "whoever is involved"  amid nationwide outrage over the incident. The Congress would on Monday (October 11) hold ‘maun vrat (vow of silence)’ protest across the country to demand the sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni. Senior Congress leaders and workers would protest in silence outside Central government offices from 10 am to 1 pm on Monday.
