Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express, passenger trains to remain suspended till 3rd May

The Ministry of Railways on Tuesday stated that all the passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway, etc shall continue to remain suspended till the 2400 hrs of 3rd May. The Indian Railways has extended the suspension of its passenger services till May 3. The announcement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of lockdown across the country till May 3. While announcing the extension, PM Modi stated that "While making new guidelines, we have kept in mind the interests of the poor and daily wage workers. Also, the harvesting of Rabi crops is underway and hence the Central Government and State governments are working together to ensure that farmers face minimal problems." He added that "Till April 20, all districts, localities, states will be closely monitored, as to how strictly they are implementing norms. The states which will not let hotspots increase, they could be allowed to let some important activities resume, but with certain conditions."

Coronavirus in India

The total number of coronavirus cases in India has surged to 10,363. 1211 new cases and 31 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, as of Tuesday morning. Out of these, 1035 have been cured and discharged while the death toll has increased to 339, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
