India successfully test fires Nag anti-tank missile, ready to be inducted in Indian Army

India on Thursday successfully carried out the final trial of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO)-developed Nag anti-tank guided missile with a warhead. The test was carried out at around 6:45 am at the Pokhran field firing ranges in Rajasthan. Now, it will be inducted in Indian Army. The trial of Nag anti-tank guided missile comes after the DRDO tested the helicopter launched Stand-off Anti-Tank Missile (SANT) with a range beyond 10 km from Balasore testing range in Odisha on October 19. It has completed 10 successful user trial as it finds the target and then hit it. Only one missile, 1000 km range sub-sonic cruises Nirbhay, developed a snag in a test earlier this month. The missile now expected to test fired in the coming months as the technical snag has been identified and rectified. After the final trial of Nag anti-tank missile, the Indian Army will no longer have to import this weapon from either Israel or the US for the range of 4 kilometres. Due to unavailability of an anti-tank weapon, India had to buy around 200 pieces of Spike anti-tank missiles from Israel following the aggression by People’s Liberation Army in Ladakh. The Spike missiles were purchased after the Galwan face-off on June 15. -PTC News
