India reports 3,377 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

New Delhi, April 29: India continues to register an uptick in its daily Covid-19 caseload as the country logged 3,377 new infections in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday. India's active cases increased to 17,801, accounting for 0.04 percent of the total cases. The ministry data further mentioned that as many as 2,496 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 4,25,30,622. The recovery rate currently is 98.74 percent, however, the death toll climbed to 5,23,753 with 60 fresh fatalities. India's covid cases surpass 3,000-mark With 4,73,635 Covid-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the daily positivity rate has been recorded at 0.71 percent. The weekly positivity rate has been reported at 0.63 percent.

With this, the total number of vaccine jabs administered under the nationwide vaccination drive so far jumped to 1,88,65,46,894. Meanwhile, a new Covid-19 variant, BA.12, was found in Bihar's Patna on Thursday. According to the state's health department, the new coronavirus variant of Omicron was found at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). BA.12 is 10 times more dangerous than BA.2, which was detected during the third wave of coronavirus in the country.
