In pics: Indian Railways rolls out first AC 3-Tier economy class coach
Indian Railways on Wednesday has rolled out its first AC 3-Tier economy class coach which is being touted as the cheapest and best AC travel in the world. Indian Railways' AC 3-Tier economy class coach will be "economical". It will be in between the current AC three-tier and non-AC sleeper class. - It can carry more passengers as the berths have been increased from 72 to 83.
- The high voltage electrical switchgear has been shifted below the underframe, thus increasing the capacity of passengers by introducing 11 additional berths.
- Each and every coach is having a wider and one disabled-friendly toilet entry door.
- Several other design improvements have been made for passenger comfort including the AC ducting.
- It has a modular design of seats and berths, foldable snack tables in longitudinal and transverse bays, injury-free spaces, and holders for water bottles, mobile phones, and magazines.
- It also has the ergonomically improved design of a ladder accessing to middle and upper berths.
- There is an increased headroom in the middle and upper berths.
