IAS Sanjay Popli's son fires at himself in front of Vigilance officials, dies
Chandigarh, June 25: Kartik Popli, son of IAS officer Sanjay Popli, who was recently arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in a graft case, died by suicide in front of Vigilance officials at their residence in Sector 11 in Chandigarh on Saturday. The police have started investigations.
Notably, the incident took place when Punjab Vigilance sleuths were conducting a raid at their house. IAS officer Sanjay Popli was to appear in Mohali court in the afternoon, but before that the incident happened.

Sanjay Popli is accused of taking bribe in exchange for tenders from different contractors, including in Punjab and Haryana.
Within 24 hours of his arrest in a corruption case, a fresh FIR was registered against Punjab IAS officer Sanjay Popli under the Arms Act.

Vilance Bureau officials found unaccounted live cartridges from his house during searches. They found 73 bullets (41 of 7.65 bore, 30 of .22 bore and two of .32 bore) from his house.

It is learnt that a contractor from Abohar had complained on the Punjab Government’s anti-corruption helpline that the IAS officer took 1 per cent cut from him for a water supply and sewerage project.
