Here's why most parts of Punjab faced electricity cut for hours

No electricity in Punjab Districts Including Mohali and Patiala: Several parts of Punjab faced electricity cuts for over 4-5 hours on Wednesday due to a huge gap in demand and supply. Farmers continued to protest demanding 8 hours of continuous power for tubewells to irrigate their paddy crop. Likewise, the urban areas of Punjab faced 1-2 hours of electricity cut while suburbs spent 4-5 hours without electricity. Also Read | In another setback for common man, Amul increases price of milk The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) data stated that thermal plants of Punjab have the capacity to generate 6,840 MW power, but they were generating only 5,640 MW. Likewise, there were outages in Ropar thermal plant (210MW) and Talwandi Sabo thermal plant (990 MW). Since Punjab has already closed the Bathinda thermal plant, it was largely dependent on private plants. While Talwandi Sabo thermal plant is generating only 50 percent of its capacity, the PSPCL was now only dependent on rains as Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has also been facing water shortage for hydel power generation. There was no full-fledged electricity in parts of Punjab on Wednesday, including Ludhiana, Patiala, and Mohali. In Adda Dakha of Ludhiana, the residents enjoyed power for only one and a half hours between 1 pm and 9 pm. Similarly, the villages like Hassanpur, the Baddowal area, Mullanpur, Adda Dakha area, and markets faced cuts for up to 6 hours. Meanwhile, the PSPCL officials had no idea about how much time would it take to be restored.
