"His blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive, as suspected when he was admitted for tropical fever," according to a hospital health notice. The 50-year-old AAP leader has received proper antibiotics. "All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement."
What is leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis is a disease caused by the leptospira bacteria that infects both humans and animals. It is most commonly transmitted through direct contact with diseased animals' urine or exposure to pee-contaminated surroundings such as water or soil.
Bacteria can enter the human body through skin cuts or abrasions, as well as mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Symptoms
