Mohali, May 5: With an increase in the number of students in government schools, the Punjab Education Department has decided to run the government schools in the state in double shifts. Notably, government schools in Punjab lack the required number of teachers and infrastructure to accommodate students, influencing the quality of education. The state's government schools are left with no other option but to employ double shifts. As per the orders released by the education department, the decision has been taken due to the lack of space and infrastructure in schools. Due to the increase in the number of students, many were seeking double shifts in schools following which the orders were released, said the letter issued. While the evening shift will be from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. According to officials of the Educations department, the number of students in government schools increased after the Covid-19 pandemic. A similar trend was seen in various districts across Punjab, owing to which the authorities faced several challenges like lack of space and infrastructure.
