Fresh stone pelting in Jahangirpuri, violence accused's family attacks police team

New Delhi, April 18: Bricks were allegedly thrown at the Delhi Police Crime Branch team at C-block in Jahangirpuri on Monday where they were investigating the violence that occurred during a 'Shobha Yatra' on Hanuman Jayanti. "The recent media report of fresh stone pelting is an exaggeration of facts. It was a minor, one-off incident. Legal action is being taken. One person has been detained," Delhi Police stated. Earlier on Sunday, a video showing a man in a blue kurta opening fire during the riot in the Jahangirpuri area on April 16 surfaced on the internet. Following this, a Police team had gone to the man's house in CD Park Road to look for him and to question his family members. However, the family members pelted two stones at them in retaliation. Meanwhile, Rapid Action Force and police had been deployed in the violence-hit Jahangirpuri area. Bricks thrown at police team in Jahangirpuri Earlier on Monday, Delhi police commissioner, Rakesh Asthana stated that the police are monitoring social media to stop the spread of misinformation in the wake of the violence that erupted in the Jahangirpuri area. He further said that action will be taken against culprits attempting to disturb the peace. "Some people are trying to disturb peace through social media posts. We are monitoring social media closely, and legal action will be taken against those who are found spreading misinformation. The public should not pay heed to rumours," Asthana added. The police commissioner also informed that nine people sustained injuries in the violence, which included police personnel who were deployed on the duty. "So far 23 accused have been arrested. Nine people including police personnel and one civilian received injuries during the incident," the police official said. In response to a question concerning the investigation into the incident, he stated that the police are examining the incident's CCTV footage as well as digital media. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the district police are jointly probing the incident, informed, Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Ravindra Yadav.
