Beijing (China), October 22: Former Chinese President Hu Jintao was unexpectedly escorted out of Beijing's 'Great Hall of the People' on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the ruling Communist Party's congress. Hu Jintao, 79, was removed by unnamed Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents during the conference's closing ceremony today. The congress is held every five years. The reason why the Chinese leader was removed is unclear. More details were awaited, however, information about such incidents is rarely revealed by China. As Hu was being escorted, he looked at Xi Jinping and had a conversation that was not audible to the cameras that were recording the incident. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was also spotted standing next to Xi, who likewise remained expressionless as the former Chinese president was removed. It is currently expected that Xi Jinping will continue to be China's supreme leader. Xi is largely expected to become the Party's General Secretary, clearing the way for an unprecedented third term as Chinese president. The Chinese Communist Party's 20th National Congress will end today. He will either be re-elected as CCP general secretary or will be elected for the first time as CCP chairman, a position that has been vacant since 1982 and was once held by Mao Zedong. The congress is taking place during one of the most perilous periods in recent years in international affairs.
