Accused used staircase to enter | 10 detection teams working in different directions to arrest accused
PTC Web Desk: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed inside his Bandra home in Mumbai during the early hours of Thursday. According to the Mumbai Police, the intruder likely entered through the fire escape staircase with the intent to commit burglary and remained inside the residence for several hours. The 54-year-old actor sustained serious injuries, including six stab wounds, during a violent altercation with the attacker.
Saif Ali Khan underwent surgery for a spinal cord injury and is now in stable condition. The incident occurred around 2.30 am in the children's room when a house help noticed the intruder and raised the alarm. In response to the commotion, Saif confronted the assailant, leading to the attack. The house help also suffered minor hand injuries during the struggle.
Intruder identified, police teams mobilised
The Mumbai Police have identified the suspect and formed 10 teams to track him down. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam confirmed that the intruder used the fire escape staircase to access the residence, likely in an attempted burglary.
Saif Ali Khan was rushed to the hospital by his family and staff following the assault. Police officials assured that he is recovering well and out of danger.
CCTV and mobile data provide key evidence
The police have reviewed 25–30 CCTV footage clips and analysed mobile dump data from the area to gather evidence. The mobile data helped identify the suspect by pinpointing active networks during the time of the attack.
CCTV footage captured the intruder on the building's sixth floor before the attack. However, no unauthorised entry was seen in the footage from two hours prior, raising questions about how the suspect entered the building.
An FIR has been registered based on the house help’s complaint, naming her as the primary complainant. The Mumbai Police are questioning five staff members from Saif’s team and labourers working on ongoing renovations at the housing society for additional details.
The society’s security guard did not report witnessing any unauthorised entry. A forensic team has also collected evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
A female staff member injured in the attack was treated and discharged from the hospital. The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the intruder.
