PTC News Desk: Former 'One Direction' star singer Liam Payne tragically passed away at the age of 31. He died after he reportedly fell from a hotel balcony in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina earlier this week.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, local authorities confirmed the incident, with state police providing details about the fall from the third-floor balcony on Costa Rica Street.

In a statement, the capital police said they were called to the hotel in the capital's lush Palermo neighbourhood after being informed of an "aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol."

The hotel manager reported hearing a loud noise in the back of the hotel, and when police arrived, they found that a man had fallen over the balcony in his room, according to the statement.

The 31-year-old British singer was found in the hotel's interior patio, according to emergency responders.

Payne soared to global fame as a member of the now-disbanded pop band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson.

The boy band emerged after finishing third on the British version of the X Factor music competition show in 2010, however, the group disbanded in 2016 as its members pursued various projects, including solo careers.

Entertainment Weekly selected One Direction as the third greatest boy band of all time in 2024.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Payne's One Direction and solo careers contributed to a net worth of around $70 million.

In 2017, Payne welcomed his child Bear with Cheryl, a British TV personality and Girls Aloud singer.

Payne had earlier this month attended his former bandmate Niall Horan's concert in Buenos Aires.
