Juhi Chawla is India's richest actress, outshines Bollywood peers with Rs 4,600 crore net worth
While Juhi Chawla rose to fame as a leading actress in the 1990s, acting is only a small part of her wealth story
PTC Web Desk: In the 1990s, Bollywood witnessed a major shift as actors began commanding fees that exceeded Rs 1 crore per film. This marked the beginning of a new era where endorsements and business ventures transformed movie stars into multi-millionaires. Today, it’s no longer surprising to find an Indian actress among the world’s richest entertainers. What is remarkable, however, is that India’s wealthiest actress has not had a box-office hit in over a decade, yet she continues to dominate the financial charts.
Juhi Chawla Tops the List as India’s Richest Actress
According to the Hurun Rich List of 2024, Juhi Chawla has earned the title of the richest actress in India, with her wealth second only to her longtime friend and business partner, Shah Rukh Khan, among Indian actors. With a net worth estimated at Rs 4600 crore ($580 million), Juhi’s fortune far surpasses that of her peers. Her immense wealth places her among the top 10 richest actresses in the world.
Juhi Chawla’s Wealth Compared to Other Actresses
Juhi’s financial success is so significant that the combined net worth of the next five richest Indian actresses doesn’t match hers. Following Juhi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ranks second with a net worth exceeding $100 million (around Rs 850 crore). Priyanka Chopra, thanks to her global brand endorsements, production house, and Hollywood projects, secures the third spot with a fortune of approximately Rs 650 crore. The list is completed by two of the current top stars, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, who have also made substantial business investments alongside their acting careers.
How Juhi Chawla Built Her Empire
While Juhi Chawla rose to fame as a leading actress in the 1990s, acting is only a small part of her wealth story. Despite being one of Bollywood's top names during her prime, her last major box-office success was Luck By Chance in 2009. The majority of her fortune stems from her strategic business ventures. Juhi is a significant figure in the Red Chillies Group, co-founded with Shah Rukh Khan. Through her involvement in the production house, she co-owns the Kolkata Knight Riders, an IPL cricket team, which has proven to be a lucrative investment. Additionally, Juhi has invested in real estate and other businesses, often alongside her husband, businessman Jay Mehta.
Her shift from a Bollywood star to a savvy entrepreneur highlights how some of the industry's biggest names have diversified beyond the silver screen to build long-lasting legacies.
