ECI to celebrate National Voters' Day on January 25
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will celebrate 12th National Voters' Day (NVD) on January 25. The theme of this year's National Voters Day is 'Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative.' The theme for this year's NVD intends to highlight ECI's commitment to facilitate the active participation of voters during the elections and to make the complete process hassle-free and a memorable experience for each and every voter. Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu has accepted the invitation to be the Chief Guest for the national function. However, due to his unavailability to attend the function in person, his address will be delivered virtually during the event. Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju will also grace the event as the Guest of Honour.
Also Read | Smriti Mandhana bags ICC Women's Cricketer of 2021 award To mark the occasion, National Awards for the Best Electoral Practises for the year 2021-22 will be given to State and District level officers for their exceptional performance in the conduct of elections in various spheres such as IT initiatives, Security Management, Election Management, Accessible Elections and contribution in the field of voter awareness and outreach. Important stakeholders such as government departments, ECI icons, and media organisations will also receive national awards for their contributions to voter awareness. During the event, the newly enrolled voters will also be felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The poll body had recently launched a new initiative to deliver the EPIC along with a personalised letter and a Voter Guidebook to newly enrolled voters. An ECI Publication 'Leap of Faith: Journey of Indian Elections' will also be launched. The book tells the story of India's electoral history and the evolution of representation and electoral principles from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century. The book contextualises the role of elections in the making of modern India, based on thorough research from credible sources. The book focuses on India's Election Commission's ongoing attempts to ensure that elections are really representative of the people's verdict. Another publication, titled 'Pledging to Vote - A decadal Journey of The National Voters Day in India' will also be released. From the Diamond Jubilee celebration onwards, the book details ECI's National Voters' Day celebrations. The book, especially its pictorials, is dedicated to the country's voters and is sure to inspire personnel who serve as "Frontline Warriors" of Electoral Democracy. For the current Assembly Elections 2022, a national voter awareness contest on social media called "My Vote is My Future- Power of One Vote" will be launched to emphasise the importance of every vote through creative expression. The contest will be open to everybody, featuring categories such as song, slogan, quiz, video making, and poster design. Since 2011, every year on January 25th, National Voters' Day has been observed across the country to commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India, i.e. January 25, 1950. The primary goal of the NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximise voter registration, particularly among new voters. The day is dedicated to the country's voters and it is used to raise voter awareness and encourage informed participation in the election process. -PTC News
