Cyclonic storm Amphan kills 77 in West Bengal

The death toll due to the cyclone Amphan in West Bengal has increased to 77. Meanwhile, the authorities are busy in restoring the normal life thrown out of gear by the worst weather disasters. Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for West Bengal and Odisha to take stock of the situation after the cyclone wreaked havoc in the two states. An official stated that five more bodies were recovered from the debris since Thursday night in various parts of West Bengal. Lakhs of people lost their homes as the cyclone Amphane left behind the trail of destruction in half a dozen districts of West Bengal, including the state capital Kolkata, uprooting thousands of trees besides swamping low-lying areas and blowing away shanties. We hope due to this cyclone, the central government would leave aside politics and would extend all sorts of help to rebuild the state." West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the family members of the deceased. She also announced a corpus fund of Rs 1,000 crore for preliminary restoration work of the affected areas.
