Covid-19 vaccine: Pfizer, Moderna mull to supply millions of vaccine doses

As people are still waiting for the Covid-19 vaccine, the two pharmaceutical companies have delivered good news this week. After Pfizer and Moderna, on Monday, said that its candidate for coronavirus vaccine is nearly 95 percent effective in preventing the viral disease. According to the current projections, it will produce 20 million of Covid-19 vaccine doses by the end of this year. Meanwhile, Pfizer is expecting to produce up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 globally. The companies have claimed that they will be able to vaccinate 25 million and 10 million people across the world, respectively. However, the supply will be restricted to countries that are dealing with the manufacturers. These include the United States which has a deal with both Pfizer and Moderna for the Covid-19 vaccine supply. The government of India is in talks with both domestic and international vaccine manufacturers for the purchase of coronavirus vaccine. “Not only with Moderna, but the government is also in communication with Pfizer, Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech, and Zydus Cadila for their Covid-19 vaccine candidate in terms of safety, immunogenicity and efficacy,” news agency PTI reported quoting a senior government official.
