Covid-19: India logs 15,940 new cases in 24 hours
New Delhi, June 25: India witnessed a marginal decline in daily Covid-19 cases as it reported 15, 940 infections in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.
A day before, India witnessed a steep rise in daily Covid-19 cases, recording 17,336 new infections.
The country also recorded as many as 20 Covid-related deaths in a 24-hour period, taking the total death toll to 5,24,944.
With the newly reported case, the active caseload in the country jumped to 91,779, accounting for 0.21% of the total cases. The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 4.39% and the weekly positivity rate stands at 3.30%, according to data released by the health ministry.
Around 12,425 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the overall recoveries since the starting of the pandemic to 4.27 crore.

According to the data updated by the health ministry, currently, 12 states and union territories are witnessing an uptick in Covid-19 cases. These states/UTs are- Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Gujarat, Goa, and Punjab.
According to the sources, amid rising cases of Covid-19 in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a review meeting with the core team of experts today in the physical format in the afternoon.
Earlier, on June 13, Mandaviya chaired a meeting through video conferencing with Health Ministers and senior officials of States and Union Territories (UTs) to review the progress of the vaccination exercise HarGharDastak 2.0 campaign.
He had urged States and UTs to continue and strengthen the surveillance and focus on genome sequencing for identifying new mutants/variants in the country.
