Covid-19: India logs 1,150 fresh cases in 24 hours
New Delhi, April 17: India reported 1,150 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which are 175 more than the previous day, according to the update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. With this, the active cases in the country increased to 11,558, accounting for 0.03 percent of the total cases. During the last 24 hours, the daily case positivity rate remained 0.31 percent, a minor drop from what was reported on Saturday (0.32 PC). However, the weekly positivity rate saw a minor uptick and currently stands at 0.27 percent. As many as 954 Covid-19 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 4,25,08,788 since the beginning of the pandemic in the country. The Covid recovery rate in India currently is at 98.76 per cent, according to the update. With this, the death toll rose to 5,21,751. Meanwhile, the country tested 3,65,118 Covid-19 samples in the last 24 hours. So far, 83.18 crore tests have been conducted in the country. As far as the vaccination under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive is concerned, 12,56,533 Covid-19 vaccines were administered during this period, taking the cumulative vaccine doses to 1,86,51,53,593. Furthermore, India on Saturday objected to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) methodology to estimate the Covid-19 death toll in the country, arguing that the same mathematical model cannot be applied to estimate the mortalities of a country like India which has a large geographical size and population.
