Covid-19 cases on decline in India; 1,096 new infections reported in 24 hrs

New Delhi, April 3: As the downward trend of Covid-19 cases in India continues, 1,096 new infections were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry. With this, the active caseload stands at 13,013, constituting 0.03 percent of the country's total positive cases. "There has been a sustained fall in the weekly and daily positivity rates too," read a press release issued by the Ministry. The weekly positivity rate in India currently stands at 0.23 percent, while the daily positivity rate was reported to be 0.24 percent.
In the previous 24 hours, 1,447 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered patients since the start of the pandemic to 4,24,93,773. Meanwhile, as of 7 a.m. on Sunday, India's Covid-19 vaccine coverage had surpassed 184.66 crore (1,84,66,86,260). Covid-19 vaccination for children aged 12 to 14 years old began on March 16. So far, the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been provided to about 1.85 crore (1,85,44,700) adolescents. In the previous 24 hours, 4,65,904 Covid-19 tests were administered around the country. In total, India has conducted around 79.07 crore (79,07,64,883) tests. As the Covid-19 cases continue to decline in India, several states have lifted pandemic restrictions with many announcing that wearing masks is no longer mandatory in public places and workplaces. Haryana, on Saturday, declared that not wearing a mask will no longer attract a fine, while Delhi also scraped the penalty on not wearing masks a day before.
