Coronavirus update: Punjab vaccination centres reserve Sundays for second dose of vaccine
Coronavirus update: With several people in Punjab still awaiting for their second dose of Covid 19 vaccine, the Punjab Government has earmarked every Sunday for administering only the second dose of the jab. This was informed by Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Thursday. He said the vaccine supply to the state had been accelerated, but the coverage of vaccination to due beneficiaries remained critical for the successful impact of the vaccination drive. The normal vaccination sessions for the first or the second dose would remain the same during the weekdays, except Sunday. The Health Minister said by August 31, 1,36,70,847 doses had been administered and out of these 32,89,210 had received both doses of vaccine and 1,03,81,637 had received the first dose. Meanwhile, Punjab on Wednesday reported 38 fresh Covid cases, taking the count to 6,00,651. The state’s death toll from the infection reached 16,434 with one fatality reported in the past 24 hours, as per Punjab medical bulletin. In an order issued last month, the Punjab Government had ordered to conduct at least 10,000 RT-PCR tests at state schools daily. The state had reopened schools for all classes on August 2.
